A break in the weather here in New England, i.e. warmer temperatures. And with it, calls resuming for bed bug K9 inspections. Strange how the 2 are related.
Advanced infestation in one room of a 2nd floor apartment in Worcester – Malamar was reluctant to go into that room: she sniffed the crack opening of the door and looked at me as if to say: “You are kidding, right? Where do you want me to alert?” So she alerted on the door instead.
I found bed bugs on the floor mirror standing next to the bed. At first I saw the tell-tale signs of peppered dots all over the corners of the cardboard back cover of the mirror. That was a hint. Next I used my flashlight to highlight the seam that ran the whole length of the mirror, and there it was: one mean-looking, blood-engorged bed bug, hanging on there, as still as can be.
I then checked along the seam of the mattress and did not see any evidence which I thought was unlikely. So I decided to lift the mattress and lo and behold 2 bed bugs crawled away on the wooden slats supporting the mattress..
I gently lowered the mattress as to not disturb them any longer. Needless to say, I started to become very paranoid, flashing my light up the walls and ceiling and then I recalled how Malamar refused to go in. Hint, hint!
People want visual confirmation but I have to tell you that this particular bed bug episode was CREEPY to say the least. I felt like I was being watched, like I was the prey that these elusive, cryptic bed bugs had been waiting for and wanted to get a meal out of.
When I got home, I took all my clothes off and threw them in the dryer on high heat for 40 minutes together with my sneakers.
I also gave Malamar a bath before bringing her in.
