So, here I am being tasked to sniff out this room of a hotel in Ocean City, MD. What’s the big deal! So as usual I start from the left and head my way around the room toward the left bed. Then suddenly it hit me like a rock! The scent of bed bugs was swirling everywhere. I just did not know what to do so I sneezed. I decided to continue sniffing down the bed around the foot and up the right side of it until I reached the night stand in between the 2 beds.
Again, what in the whoof (“hell” in dog’s terms) was that! That same scent of bed bugs was all over the air, gyrating and frolicking like a feather in the wind. What am I supposed to do? Where do I alert with my paw so I can inform my handler. She watched me cluelessly. Just couldn’t understand my esoteric behavior. I was getting frustrated. So I decided to continue sniffing the right bed, again from a left to right direction, then “sniff-inched” my way to the opposite wall where that stupid air-conditioner was blasting away full-tilt. Humans don’t understand that we, the canine species, hate air blowing in our face. So I skipped this damn AC. Well, my handler was very perplexed because she had been told by her trainer, who incidentally was observing both our behaviors, that a mid-size infestation-like vile of bed bugs was in the room. Wazzup with that. Well you wouldn’t believe what she discovered. To be continued tomorrow, so stay tuned…
