Not every dog can become a good bed bug detection dog. Dogs are being screened out by going through a battery of tests prior to being considered for the training. So here are the criteria’s that determine if they are selected:
* They must have a high-energy level, show enthusiasm, alertness, and interest. They must show a strong drive for preying or hunting and be either toy or food motivated.
* They must have a stable temperament, be comfortable and not afraid of new environments they are being exposed to.
* They are friendly and love to please their master.
On average, 1 in 50 dogs will be selected because they fit the criteria’s mentioned above.
