 Live samples –bed bugs are elusive and are very small at the nymphal stage.  Good eyesight or better yet, a magnifier will allow you to identify them easily. Cast Skins – bed bugs must shed their skin between blood meals in order to develop into a full adult.

Faecal traces – bed bugs must defecate after a blood meal.  Tell tale signs are peppered dots in a cluster either at the site of the meal or near their harborage.
